Review : Suzuki GSX-S1000

Spirit of the racetrack

The exciting new GSX-S1000 brings the spirit of Suzuki from the racetrack to the street. Derived from the perpetual podium-inhabitant GSX-R1000, the GSX-S shares racetrack-bred technology and performance but packaged in a street riding chassis.

With a heritage dating back to 1980, this new series is designed for riders who want comfort and rider-friendliness to match the speed and performance features.

The GSX-S1000 is a great combo – comfortable, fast and well-priced.

Key Features Impress

The GSX-R engine powers this model, but tuned for street use with titanium valves replaced with stainless steel, with a broad range of power and torque and efficiency delivered with state-of-the-art technology.

The advanced traction control system is an impressive feature for less tiring and hence more enjoyable riding by allowing greater confidence with throttle control in even diverse conditions. You can set the system to any of the three modes with a very smooth and natural feel on engine output.

Suzuki has designed a new chassis which makes the GSX-S1000 even more fun to ride – a lightweight and compact package with a focus on handling in actual street and road conditions. Using finite element analysis techniques, the frame is lighter than the GSX-R1000. This technique was also utilised to engineer the new pistons for optimal weight and rigidity.

The fuel tank has a capacity of 17 litres and, with this bike designed for the long ride, that represents around 300 klms.

Top of the range Brembo Monobloc calipers are installed as is antilock braking system with a lightweight control unit to make the bike more nimble.

Data on Display

While on a long ride or even a city sprint, all your performance data is easily accessed from a very comprehensive instrument display. Readouts are shown for the speedo and tacho, odometer and two trip meters as well as water temperature, traction control mode and gear position. Fuel can be checked for level, range, instant and average consumption. And of course a clock to keep you on time.

Riding position is upright yet sporty with the low seat height of 815 mm.

Personalise with Accessories

While matte black aluminium handbars are standard there are plenty of extras and accessories, include genuine carbon items, to personalise your ride.

The Suzuki GSX-S1000 truly brings a rich heritage into the realm and reach of today’s riders, who are after a solid performance machine that is comfortable to enjoy for the long ride.
