The start of each new year is a time for many motorbike enthusiasts to look to Saudi Arabia and be wowed and in awe of the competitors in the annual Dakar Rally. The 2021 event was not without sadness and tragedy with French rider Pierre Cherpin passing away from injuries he received on Stage 7 and our Australian favourite Toby Price crashing out and sustaining a broken collar bone. Commiserations and condolence to family and friends of both these remarkable riders.
But on the excitement scale, Dakar 2021 delivered! The ultimate prize went to the Argentine Kevin Benavides rising a Honda and winning the rally at this fifth attempt. But it was no easy feat. Several rides including Aussie Toby Price, a two time winner of the event, held the lead over the gruelling multi-day event.
Nipping on the wheels of Cherpin was KTM rider Daniel Sanders. A Victorian competing in his very first Dakar and who managed to finish fourth. A fantastic feat for this enduro champion. Two other Aussies, Michael Burgess and Andrew Houlihan also competed and achieved no doubt in their own way their own Dakar dream. Four women riders also competed in Dakar 2021 - so come on girls, get your own ‘Dakar dream’ happening!

2021 Bike Loans Guide

Interest Rates on Bike Loans
Throughout 2020 the official cash rate was reduced a number of times by the RBA. This is not the interest rate for bike loans and other consumer finance. But it is the rate that banks and lenders can source their funds and a major influencer on the rates we can achieve for our bike loan customers.
Interest rates in general are at historic low levels and we are achieving even cheaper than ever rates on bike loans. This scenario should continue into 2021 but it will depend on how both the global and Australian economy performs. If conditions change, the RBA may decide to make a change.
Note that all Jade bike loans are arranged at a fixed interest rate. So if official interest rates change or if the lender we have arranged your loan through changes their interest rate, your existing loan will not change. A fixed rate bike loan means that your interest rate and repayments are set for the full loan term.
Consumer Credit Law Changes
One of the big news items in 2020 for the consumer lending sector was the announcement by the Federal Government of their intention to simplify laws and regulations around consumer credit. The objective is to make it easier for people to access funds and primarily the measure is focussed on home loans. But it does affect consumer finance in general and that may include some bike loan applicants. The changes are due to come into effect in April 2021 so keep tuned for updates here or in the media if this may influence your bike purchase decision.
