How to Save When Buying a Motorbike with Finance. Tips for cutting the cost of your purchase.

When buying a motorbike, buyers can look to save on the price with dealer and maker discounts and on their finance with lower interest rates and other actions. The recent fuel crisis appears to be attracting buyers to motorcycles. The FCAI reported strong sales in the sector from January to March this year compared with the same quarter of 2025. The sales were led by scooters and off-road models. While FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber said it was too early to say whether the sales increase was as a result of the fuel crisis, it is expected that interest in motorbikes as an alternative form of transport would increase.

It appears unsurprising as there are sure to be many buyers considering the switch from four to two-wheeled transport with the high cost of fuel, as we discussed in a recent blog post. For buyers, the strong sales may present an issue with securing lower prices.

With sales strong, will there be any need for dealers and manufacturers to discount prices? Are there any deals to be found? If not, how can buyers reduce the cost of their purchase?

We discuss some of the ways that buyers may save when buying a motorbike, both on the price of the machine and with their loan.

Current Discounts and Special Offers

The end of financial year sales will be coming up soon, but some manufacturers already have special offers available. Yamaha Motorcycles has offers available, while stocks last, with a deal running from January through to the end of June this year.

Honda also recently had a promotional offer with a $400 discount that ended on 30 April 2026. So manufacturers appear to be regularly running campaigns on selected models. Buyers may do well to cover off on numerous makers to find the most affordable, and possibly widen their scope of preferred brands to consider alternatives. It could mean a savings on the purchase price.

Buying a Motorbike with Cheaper Finance

While buyers may have to wait for the next big sale season — EOFY — to get a price discount, there are ways that buyers requiring finance can save on their loan. One of the keys to cheaper motorcycle finance is securing the lowest possible interest rate. To secure that very important lowest rate, buyers should consider two perspectives – the lender and their own buyer side.

Interest rates on loans for motorcycles can vary considerably across the market. Some lenders may offer a general personal loan for a range of goods which would include motorcycles. Other specialist sources, such as Jade Bike Loans, offer a loan tailored for the purpose.

Rates are offered individually as they are based on the financials and credit profile of the applicant and specifics of the loan requested. To find which lender will offer them the best rate at any particular time, buyers may have to request multiple quotes. This process can impact their credit score.

A faster and more reliable approach, and one that does not impact the credit score, is to use a finance broker. We have connections with 80+ lenders and quickly cover the market to find customers their most suitable lender, loan and their best rate, ensuring the cheapest possible loan is secured.

From the buyer’s perspective, issues to consider are the financial position and credit score. Reducing debt levels can improve their balance sheet and contribute to a better rate. If there are errors on the credit report, fixing these before applying is highly recommended.

Rates represent risk — specifically the risk assessment of lenders extending funds to that individual. In addition to the credit score and financials, lenders will be looking at how much the buyer wants to borrow. Specifically, the amount of the loan compared with the price or value of the machine.

A lower ratio of loan to value can present a lower risk and attract a better rate. This may be achieved by making a larger downpayment on the machine to the dealer.

Buying a second-hand machine can present a good way to secure a machine at a lower price. But buyers should be aware that rates and loan conditions can be different for used motorcycles. In addition, maintenance and repair costs may be higher on the used machine over the first few years of ownership. Request quotes on both options to assist with your decision.

Prepare when Buying a Motorbike

We provide a Finance Calculator tool to assist buyers to prepare for their purchase. This tool is used to calculate estimated loan payments based on the figures entered by the user. Different models at different prices can be compared. Repayments on different loan amounts can be calculated to assist with deciding on the down payment.

The ultimate preparation can be to apply for finance before buying. With conditional loan pre-approval, you’ll know how much you are approved to borrow, have rate and repayment quotes, and can select a machine to suit your finance.
