Time to buy that new motorbike and what a decision that is to make. What type of bike, which make and then which particular model are all big questions in the mix. For those that are extremely selective and always go buy for the best motorbikes, the decision-making process may entail a lot of dealership visits and test rides. Nice work if you can get it!

The team have just announced the finalists so its game on! Of course price or more specifically affordability is a major buying decider for many buyers. That can come down to the motorbike finance. To assist buyers acquire one of the what are considered the best motorbikes currently on the Australian market, we report on the finalists announcement and provide information on sourcing that all-important affordable motorcycle loan.

Bike of the Year Awards

The Bike of the Year awards are run by bikesales annually and supported by Shannons Insurance. The way the judges go about the judging process was ‘interrupted’ somewhat in 2021 due to pandemic issues. But this year, the judging process is back to its normal course of business. The process starts with the team of judges testing more than 50 new motorcycles and updated models over the past year.

When considering the finalists and winners of any awards program, it’s important to understand the judging criteria and the eligibility conditions. For the bikesales awards, to be eligible the motorcycle must be on sale currently in Australia, a new or updated model and needs to have been tested by their team.

The criteria includes:- the performance of the drivetrain and engine; handling; braking; quality of the build; innovative features; safety; the value presented for buyers; how the motorbike is ‘fit for purpose’; and other key aspects. For buyers, it’s great to see ‘value’ included in the criteria so the awards can have greater relevance for a wider range of riders and not simply those with hefty budgets.

After the initial testing phase which occurred over 12 months, the list of 50+ was culled to the list of 10 finalists. Now the judges will put these finalists to the ultimate test – the final judging stages which will be conducted in the high country in Victoria.

This process will happen over the next few weeks. Judges will be providing their comments as to why each of the finalists was awarded that honour. Possibly good tips for buyers!

The final outcome will be an overall winning motorbike and two receiving highly commended awards. These announcements are due in December.

Finalists Announced

The bikesales team has announced it’s 10 finalists for this year’s Bike of the Year and the machines cover a great selection of manufacturers and types. Cruisers, sporty models and adventure bikes all made the final 10.

Harley-Davidson made this year’s finals with the Low Rider ST. Yamaha has two finalists – the XSR 900 and the YZF-R7HO. The Honda CMX1100 DCT also made the cut as did the KTM 350 SX-F and Aprilia’s Tuareg 660 and the BMW CE 04.  The GSX-S1000 GT from Suzuki, Husqvarna Norden 901 and the Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Pro round out the elite 10 finalists.

What a great treat but a tough gig is in store for judges deciding an overall winner from these 10 magnificent machines. We await the judgement.

Having Your Say

While the experts go about their judging business, the awards also include a People’s Choice Award where individuals can cast their own vote. The outcome of the people’s voting will be announced later in November.

Getting Better Motorbike Finance for a Best Bike

To purchase any of the 10 finalists, our Secured Motorbike Loan will suit most buyers as it suits most new motorcycles.

If you’re going to buy one of the best motorbikes available, either as judged by bikesales or yourself, buyers will no doubt also be wanting better motorbike finance. Better motorbike finance can start with getting a better interest rate. It’s great to go ‘over the top’ in features and performance for the motorbike, but you don’t want to pay ‘over the top’ interest rates on a motorbike loan. After all, the interest rate is the major factor that determines the total loan cost and the monthly loan repayments.

The RBA is set to further raise interest rates with the next hike possible on 6 December. To get on your bike before the hike, it may be advisable not to wait until the judges have completed their judging and announced the Bike of the Year winners. Lenders will respond individually to RBA rate rises and we may or may not see changes to our motorbike interest rates following the next RBA Board meeting.

Prospective buyers can contact us for pre-approved motorbike finance to be ready to purchase when the Bike of the Year Winner is announced or apply now to proceed with the purchase of the one of the impressive finalists.
